As the outspoken founder of DoomMersive—a doom metal-themed tropical drinks pop-up formerly known as Doom Tiki—Chockie Tom is a vocal champion for Indigenous communities. A California native, with heritage including Indigenous Pomo and Walker River Paiute, Tom has made a mission out of dispelling colonial stereotypes around tropical drinks while raising visibility for Indigenous Americans. Her “fundrager” events raise funds while fighting cultural appropriation and serving up drinks that meld edgy and escapist. Next on Tom’s list: a book about Indigenous cocktails.
